Nobel Prize in Chemistry awarded to the Developers of the Lithium-ion Battery
RECHARGE and its members want to offer their congratulations to John B. Goodenough, M. Stanley Whittingham and Akira Yoshino for being awarded the 2019 Nobel Prize in Chemistry, and thank them for their revolutionary work in battery technology.
Lithium-ion batteries are the reference technology for a large, and still increasing, number of devices and applications, ranging from smartphones and laptops, to industrial and space equipment, to electrical vehicles and stationary energy storage in a renewables-based electricity grid.
Lithium-ion batteries have emerged to one of the fastest growing battery technologies in the world thanks to their light weight, superior cycling ability and high energy and power density.
With the discovery and longtime research into lithium-based battery power, the three scientists have truly reshaped the way societies power, drive, communicate and work today.
