Batteries play a pivotal role in today’s and tomorrow’s world. With their combination of technical features, advanced battery technologies progressively enable the creation and/or deployment of new products. For example, the strong improvement of the life duration and the autonomy of batteries used in electric mobility can further the deployment of other autonomous equipment like robots for gardening or personal care. What’s more, trends in miniaturized or flexible batteries will soon find use in applications such as wearables and internet-of-things.
It is expected that the market for advanced portable and industrial rechargeable batteries is going to increase significantly in three major market areas:
- Communication: modern society relies on cordless electric energy sources such as rechargeable batteries to satisfy our needs for barrierless, mobile communication
- Green mobility: in the changing world of individual and mass transportation, the recent progresses made on rechargeable batteries performance open opportunities for transport with lower emissions and increased environmental performances
- Electrical Energy Storage Systems: the development of renewable energy production technologies requests the buffering of off-peak energy production and the supply of electricity in low production periods. It requires also a permanent interface between the production site and the electricity grid that can be offered, among others, by advanced rechargeable batteries.
